Reclamation is an ongoing series focused on the fast food architecture of large multinational chains including McDonald’s, KFC, Pizza Hut and Dunkin Donuts. Several images capture the outlets out of business, abandoned and derelict. Other images feature sites that have gone under, to be replaced by small and medium-sized independent operations. Once the scene of fast-food production and cookie-cutter architecture, these sites now offer a diverse universe of business practices, design, and culture.
In our Wal-Marted world, these images offer bricolaged and utopian evidence of the individual’s ability to fashion something unique on the outskirts of “empire corporatus”.
